Estonia welcomes new generation HD

October 10, 2019 11.54 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Estonia’s leading cable operator Elisa has begun to broadcast a new generation of HD picture in partnership with Levira.

In the first phase, the most popular Estonian channels have been made available in HD for Elisa Klassik FTA viewers in Tallinn and Lääne-Viru County.

The HD picture is transmitted at a new frequency and encoding, allowing for data to be sent at a much larger volume. The channels available in HD are Kanal 2, Kanal 11, Kanal 12, TV3, TV6, TV3+, Sony Channel, Sony Turbo, Filmzone and Filmzone+.

Commenting on the development, Silver Soomre, Elisa’s TV services manager, said: “When we made HD TV a standard for all Elisa Elamus cable customers in the spring, now is the time to bring a sharper experience to customers over the the air”.

While the previous Levira over the air service was at 576i resolution, the new one is around to twice as large.

The signals can be received by all major Samsung. LG, Sony and Philips TVs from 2016 onwards.

Reception also requires DVB-T2 and H.265 encoding support and a Conax digital set-top box.
