Subscription TV is enjoyed by 86% of TV households in Portugal, according to the regulator Anacom.
Figures for the first half of 2019 show there to be 4 million pay-TV subscribers, up 3.4%, and representing an increase of 132,000 households over the same period in 2018.
The increase can be attributed to the growth in fibre-based offerings (FTTH), The growth in the subscription TV service was due to fibre-based offerings (FTTH), which registered a further 298,000 subscribers over the first half of 2018, reflecting a growth of 20.2% to around 1.8 million of customers.
FTTH continued to be the main form of access to this service (44.4% of total subscribers), followed by cable television (33.2%), DTH satellite (12%) and ADSL (10.4%).
The NOS Group had the highest subscriber share (40.5%), followed by MEO, Vodafone and NOWO, with shares of 39.6%, 15.8% and 4%, respectively.
