Poland’s Cyfrowy Polsat and Telewizja Polsat have begun HbbTV tests via DTT.
At the same time, they will undertake technical trials to increase the reach of the multiplex MUX4.
According to the companies, which are part of the Polsat Group, the test are being undertaken on terrestial transmisions of the proprietary channel Polsat News in four new locations – Warsaw, Katowice, Poznan and the tri-city of Gdansk, Gdynia and Sopot.
The channel is being unencrypted on MUX4, while at the same time the possibilities of HbbTV will be explored on Telewizja Polsat channels distributed on MUX2.
MUX4 currently reaches around 33% of the Polish population and Cyfrowy Polsat has applied to the Office of Electronic Communications (UKE) to temporarily conducts the tests in the new locations, initially using DVB-T and in the second stage DVB-T2 technology.
