Although neither company has issued an official statement, both companies confirm that a deal has been signed, bringing the Dutch OTT app company into the Comcast fold.
Metrological is a developer of apps that integrate OTT channels and on-demand services into traditional pay-TV platforms, including Comcast and Liberty Global cablenets across Europe.
Last year, RDK launched an app programme for service providers worldwide, in which Metrological was an important partner, with their App Store pre-integrated in STBs.
Liberty Global has a large number of Metrological apps available to its cable subscribers in Europe. On their Horizon STB viewers can access diverse OTT services such as Netflix and Videoland, but also streaming linear channels in the French and Italian bouquets on the Dutch Ziggo network.
Last year, we wrote in Broadband TV Views: “RDK is making an important step forward by launching this app programme, especially since Android TV is making progress and small to medium sized operator are embracing Google’s technology in order to bring the fast increasing number of OTT services directly to the STB.
“Having developed hundreds of apps, Metrological is now in a prime position to play an important role in this development.”
With the Comcast deal now in place, it looks like Metrological is fulfilling that promise.
