Irdeto gains Indian customer

September 15, 2019 12.53 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The Indian telco Airtel has chosen Irdeto’s Cloaked CA to deliver content on its new Airtel Xstream Android 9.0 4K hybrid box.

The new satellite TV/OTT box offers more than 500 TV channels and the Airtel Xstream app pre-installed, as well as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and YouTube. It also boasts Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity and built-in Chromecast.

The selection of Irdeto Cloaked CA follows an initial partnership in 2018 for Irdeto to secure all content offered on Airtel’s digital TV services.

Commenting on the development, Doug Lowther, CEO, Irdeto, said: “In today’s fast-moving pay-TV market, operators need to provide a first-class user experience, while ensuring that all of the great premium content they offer is delivered with optimal security.

“Airtel has demonstrated real innovation with its Xstream converged platform and set-top box, ensuring a seamless experience across all devices, with robust security front and centre provided by Irdeto.”

Sunil Taldar, CEO, Airtel Digital TV, added: “Irdeto has already proven itself a strong security partner for Airtel, making it the perfect choice to secure the innovative new Airtel Xstream set-top box. We are continuing to demonstrate our focus on the greatest experience and choice for our customers and security is a crucial part of this.”
