Megogo to produce content

The Russian OTT service Megogo has opened a studio to produce its own content.

According to Kommersant, it plans to shoot five to seven feature films a year, as well as entertainment and non-fiction shows.

Quoting its general producer George Malkov, it adds that the budget for films will be up to R60 million (€820,000) and that for entertainment shows up to R120 million.

The films will initally be screened in cinemas and then made available by subscription on Megogo itself.

Content may also be sold to broadcasters and pay-TV channels, Furthermore, it could include advertising.

All told, Megogo plans to produce up to 300 hours of content in the first year, rising to up to 1,000 hours in 2022.
