Revenues from pay-TV and paid video-on-demand (VOD) services in Germany, Austria and Switzerland rose by 14% year-on-year to around €4 billion in 2018.
A further increase of 13% to around €4.5 billion is forecast for 2019. In Germany, total revenues in 2018 were around €3.5 billion (2017: €3 billion) and are expected to reach around €4 billion in 2019.
This are the results of the report Pay-TV in Deutschland 2019 which German commercial broadcaster association VAUNET presented in Munich today.
The number of pay-TV subscribers in German-speaking countries climbed to 8.8 million in 2018 (2017: 8.7 million), of which 7.8 million were in Germany (2017: 7.7 million). Growth to around 9 million is expected for 2019, of which 7.9 million will be in Germany.
People’s willingness to pay for TV content continues to rise, so that providers are confident about the future of the TV and streaming market, concludes the report.
