Italian police crack down on Sky Italia pirate

July 23, 2019 09.51 Europe/London By Robert Briel

In a special investigation, Italian police cracked down on Sky Italia pirate Zsat.

The police tracked down a 35-year-old man in Palermo, in whose bedroom the police found the source of the IPTV pirate: 57 decoders of Sky Italia. The police eized gold bars, 186,900 euros in cash and two “wallets” of crypto money. Zsat offered the entire Sky programme schedule.

The men of the financial cybercrime section of the Postal Police, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Palermo, say the action marked an important stage in the fight against the IPTV piracy phenomenon.

“Today, the Palermo Public Prosecutor’s Office has tightened its circle on a 35 year old citizen of Palermo, whose home has been identified and subjected to a careful search,” the police said in s taement.

“In the bedroom of the man, the “source” of the pirated IPTV Zsat was found, consisting of 57 decoders of Sky Italia, connected to equipment for retransmission on the Internet, for distribution to end customers estimated at about 11,000 people throughout Italy. Just as proof of the extent of the illegal business, in the house of the investigation alone, the men of the financial cybercrime section of the postal police have found and seized, hidden in the drains of the bathrooms and in the trash, as many as EUR186,900 in cash and a professional machine counting banknotes, gold bars, and two “wallets” hardware (virtual wallets) containing cryptomoneta in different currencies.”

According to the Italian police, TV piracy in Italy is a business worth EUR700 million a year.
