US audiences are to be given a window on European politics following an agreement between the European Broadcasting Union and Netflix.
The streaming service has licensed the US on demand rights to the annual cheesefest for the 2019 and 2020 competitions.
The semi-finals and finals from Tel Aviv are now available and the 2020 contest in the Netherlands will appear after its transmission next year.
“The European Broadcasting Union is thrilled that the world’s biggest entertainment show will now be available on-demand for viewers in the USA, one of the biggest TV markets,” said Eurovision Song Contest Executive Supervisor Jon Ola Sand. “US viewers will now get to enjoy all three of this year’s fantastic shows for the first time as well as the entire Contest in 2020. This is perfect timing with plans to launch a US version of the Contest in 2021.”
Christer Björkman, the Swedish producer of Eurovision, is heading to the US to work on the new version.
