Plans by Ireland’s RTE to launch a new timeshifted version of RTÉ2 have suffered a setback.
The public broadcaster wants to run the service on all the country’s television platforms. But the Irish Independent reports negotiations with cablenet Virgin Media were “proving difficult”.
The Ministry of Communications granted permission for the launch in January, alongside approval to run RTÉ1 +1 24-hours-a-day.
RTÉ1 +1 is already available through Virgin.
A spokesperson for RTÉ told Broadband TV News: “Following approval from the Minister of Communications, Climate Action & Environment earlier this year and consistent with our obligation to serve Irish audiences, RTÉ will continue to work with all platforms to make the new RTÉ2+1 television service available to all audiences.”
Virgin Media said the operator was constantly talking to broadcasters.
