NTV-Plus OTT platform gains customers

July 12, 2019 09.06 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The OTT platform operated by Russia’s NTV-Plus saw its paying subscriber base grow by 55,000, or over 10%, in the second quarter.

According to NTV-Plus, the most popular way of receiving its OTT service by customers who do not use the company’s satellite TV service was by subscription, accounting for over half of all users. This was 9% more than in Q1 and over double that a year earlier.

NTV-Plus notes that it is not necessary to be a DTH subscriber in order to receive the OTT service.

DTH subscribers, who have the opportunity to use the Online TV (multiscreen) service, make up 26% of the total number of paying subscribers to the OTT platform.

According to Konstantin Smirnov, director of the digital products department at NTV-Plus, the service is constantly evolving. “The NTV-Plus application for smart TV has recently appeared on LG TVs. Considering that NTV-Plus online TV is also available on the ntvplus.tv website, in mobile apps for iOS, Android, Apple TV and Android TV, we can say that we are absolutely on all devices. In addition, users have new features that are offered by the Watch Now service. It allows you to not miss the most interesting films, programmes and sporting events that have been on air in the last 24 hours. Special themed “tapes” allow subscribers to focus attention, showing the time remaining until the moment when interesting content leaves the available archive.”

White Paper: Why Wi-Fi 7 is critical for ISPs in the gigabit+ era

Today, consumers are increasingly using bandwidth-intensive and latency-sensitive workloads, such as 4K and 8K streaming, online gaming, and AR/VR applications.
