SPI International is planning to buy Dutch premium TV provider Film1, according to local press reports.
After Sony’s decision to stop Film1’s four premium movie channels, and its TV Everywhere service Film1 Go, from August, SPI International went into talks with Sony Pictures Television, owners of the channel, so that the service could continue.
The company is now talking to Dutch distributors about the continuation of the carriage contract.
At the moment, the movie channels and on-demand services of Film1 are available on the various cable, DTH and IPTV platforms from Ziggo, KPN, Canal Digitaal, T-Mobile, and Caiway. There are four linear channels, Film1 Premiere, Film1 Drama, Film1 Action, and Film1 Family, with most of the movies also available on-demand.
SPI International operates a large number of international channels in many markets around the world.
