Setanta Sports will make its debut in Ukraine on August 1 and be distributed by StarLightMedia’s digital division.
Quoting market sources, Telekritika adds that although the channel will initially be offered exclusively by OTT services, it wants to obtain the status of a foreign broadcaster and in due course also be carried by cable and IPTV networks.
Setanta will be broadcast in Ukrainian and offer viewers a wide range of sports content including the English Premier League, NBA and tennis tournaments. It will be commercial-free and work solely on the paid model.
Setanta’s Irish parent company has had an office in Kiev since autumn 2018 and earlier this year secured the TV rights to the Premier League.
It has had a presence in former CIS countries since 2012 and currently distributes the channels Setanta Sports and Setanta Sports + to 13 countries.
