The appearance of a new DTH platform in Ukraine is highly likely, according to Yuri Cherednichok, the director of Xtra TV.
Speaking to Media Group Ukraine, the company’s owner, he added that the future of satellite TV in the country depends on channels being encoded.
This will make the business, whose future is the hybrid solution satellite and internet, more attractive.
Cherednichok also said that Xtra cancelled its conditional access cards on April 1 this year mainly in order to protect its content from piracy.
It now uses its own set-top box and the reliable Verimatrix encoding system, with subscribers being the winners.
Besides being able to watch channels in HD, they can access its service on a mobile app and online.
Xtra TV was launched in 2011 and is one of the leading players in Ukraine’s DTH market.
