The cost of subscribing to quadruple and quintuple packages fell in Spain in 2018.
According to the regulator CNMC, households receiving quadruple packages paid just over €1.5 a month less (€51.4) at year’s end than they did in Q4 2018. At the same time, those who opted for quintuple packages found their monthly bills fall by over €0.5 to €78.3.
CNMC also notes that while the fall in fixed telephony penetration in 2018 was striking (three percentage points), pay-TV penetration rose from 33% to 35.6% of Spanish households. Meanwhile, in the fixed broadband sector, the penetration of the fastest growing technology (FTTH) stood at almost 55% of households as of the end of 2018, while xDSL penetration fell by nine percentage points during the year.
CNMC also says that 44.8% of households had broadband, fixed and mobile telephony packages and 32.6% added pay-TV services to the packages. Meanwhile, only 9.7% of households chose to have only telephony.
In addition, the possibly of contracting pay-TV packaged with other services was the main reason that households chose to have it.
