Mediaset is on the brink of signing a deal with Sky Italia to broadcast selected matches from the Champions League for the next two seasons.
Reuters reported the commercial broadcaster would broadcast its games free-to-air (FTA) while Sky would continue to broadcast the bulk of the Matchdays on its pay platform.
The deal is still to be signed off.
Earlier, a Milan court cleared the way for Sky to enter separate negotiations over FTA coverage. The Comcast-owned network had secured the rights to the 2018/21 season for €900 million.
However, RAI, which had brought the action said the court has not addressed the matter and had instead restricted itself to the lack of necessity for an urgent ruling.
The public broadcaster says it will continue to seek FTA rights for the remaining two years of the Sky contract.
