The Czech Radio and Television Council (RRTV) has granted a 12-year satellite licence to CNN Prima News, a channel operated by CNN and the Czech national commercial broadcaster Prima.
The licence specifies that the channel will focus on news, journalism, magazines, discussion programmes and other types of information and documentary content. It will be directed mainly or entirely at the Czech Republic, broadcasting mainly in Czech for at least 16 hours a day and a maximum of 24 hours a day.
Cesky Rozhlas reports that the delay in securing the licence, which was applied for at the beginning of April, was due to Marek Singer, the CEO of FTV Prima, wanting to be directly present in the licensing procedure and therefore looked for a suitable term that would suit both parties.
It adds that the channel is expected to launch at the beginning of next year.
As previously reported by Broadband TV News, CNN International Commercial (CNNIC) and Prima Group entered into a partnership in April to launch CNN Prima News.
