BT is to raise the price of its sports channels by a massive 67% as the cost of sports rights takes its toll.
The telco turned broadcaster has the exclusive rights to Champions League, and Europa League football, as well as the Premier League and Premiership Rugby.
It’s dropping coverage of the FA Cup from the start of the 2020/21 season.
The cost of a standard BT Sport pack will rise by 67% to £120 per year The package includes 4 high definition channels and pop up Ultra HD coverage.
A standard sub will increase by £12 to £48 a year.
For BT Classic, Essential, Sport Starter, Entertainment and Entertainment Plus packages, the increase will be a more manageable £1 per month.
The new price structure suggests the days of BT using sport to lure customers to its broadband services in favour of speed alone.
