Barcroft Studios hires John Farrar as Creative Director

June 24, 2019 09.57 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Independent factual production company Barcroft Studios today announces the appointment of John Farrar as Creative Director.

Farrar joins Barcroft Studios from Nerd TV, the UK-based factual entertainment production company he co-founded with Jago Lee and Charlie Parsons in 2010, which was sold two years later to Red Arrow Studios.

As Nerd TV’s Creative Director, Farrar was behind shows including ‘12-Year-Old Lifer’ for UK broadcaster Channel 4, ‘Man v Viral’ for National Geographic and ‘My Selfie Life’ for Fusion. Prior to this, he was Head of Development at Raw TV, where he developed ‘The Imposter’, and held senior producer roles at UK production companies Talkback Thames and Tiger Aspect.

In his new role at Barcroft Studios, John is tasked with maximising the company’s long form content output by growing the volume of external commissions. Reporting to CEO Sam Barcroft and CCO Alex Morris, he will help develop and execute the company’s creative strategy and oversee the output of both the production and development teams.

His appointment comes as Barcroft Studios announces two senior staff promotions. Alex Morris has been promoted to Chief Creative Officer while fellow board member and former Managing Director Caspar Norman has been named Chief Operating Officer.

“As we grow, it’s important to continue to offer our partners the very best output. We’ve long admired the incredible shows that John delivers and at a time of increasing opportunity for our long form content it’s exciting to welcome him to the team” said Barcroft Studios CEO Sam Barcroft.

“I am beyond thrilled to join Sam and the team at Barcroft Studios; a company dedicated to intelligent and provocative story-telling backed with journalistic rigour. Barcroft Studios are the epitome of the modern production company – nimble, mischievous and finely tuned to the needs of a constantly evolving media landscape. The chance to join them at this pivotal time was irresistible.” said John Farrar, Creative Director of Barcroft Studios.
