HbbTV Awards 2019 open for entries

June 19, 2019 09.20 Europe/London By Robert Briel

The HbbTV Association is inviting entries for the HbbTV Awards 2019.

The contest, taking place as part of the 8th HbbTV Symposium and Awards on November 21-22, 2019 in Athens, Greece, will be held for the third time, showcasing and celebrating best practice and excellence in the HbbTV community.

The providers of HbbTV applications and services are welcome to submit their entries through this online form. There are eight awards plus two judges’ awards.

The categories for the HbbTV Awards 2019 are:
• Best use of HbbTV for advertising and promotion
• Best use of HbbTV for enhanced TV services
• Best multiscreen HbbTV experience
• Best use of HbbTV for content discovery (VOD and broadcaster guides)
• Best use of HbbTV for operator applications
• Best marketing or promotion of an HbbTV-based service
• Best tool for HbbTV service development or delivery
• Best individual contribution to the HbbTV Association

• Judges award for best technology innovation in an HbbTV product or service
• Judges award for most impactful HbbTV product or service

A company may enter as many services into as many of the eight categories as they like. Each submission will require a separate form to be completed. The awards are free to enter. Entries will be judged on their execution, impact and innovation.

The closing date for submissions is August 30, 2019. A shortlist of finalists will be put forward to a panel of industry experts who will select the winners. The finalists will be announced by October 31, 2019.

The prizes will be awarded at a prestigious ceremony on November 21, 2019. The event forms part of the 8th HbbTV Symposium and Awards, taking place November 21-22, 2019 in Athens. All finalists are invited to attend the awards ceremony.

Last year’s HbbTV Awards winners include Admeira AG, Channel One, BT, ARTE G.E.I.E., CCMA, ARD Play-Out-Center, Rob Foreman and Cellnex Telecom (see picture above).

“The HbbTV Awards 2019 provide an excellent opportunity to showcase the latest best-in-class examples of applications and services enabled by the HbbTV specifications. I encourage all industry players to enter the contest for the connected TV world’s most highly acclaimed recognition,” said Vincent Grivet, Chair of the HbbTV Association.

The HbbTV Symposium and Awards 2019 targets platform operators, broadcasters, advertisers and adtechs, standards organisations and technology companies. The focus will include the first commercial rollouts of the game-changing HbbTV OpApp, the latest HbbTV deployments worldwide, new features of the HbbTV specifications, HbbTV as an enabler of targeted and addressable advertising and further opportunities offered by HbbTV to broadcasters and platform operators for expanding their business and opening new revenue sources.
