The Lithuanian Radio and Television Centre (Telecentras), together with national TV and radio companies and TV producer representative offices in the country, have launched a new HbbTV service.
Known as HiTV, it gives viewers access to LRT, the LNK channel group and Lithuanian morning TV media channels and portals, as well as over 20 radio stations.
It also includes an EPG and weather forecasts and will in the future include more content and functionality.
Commenting on the launch, Telecentras CEO Remigio Seris said “Many viewers with smart TVs are already able to press the red button on the keypad and see our hybrid TV, which is free, simple and easy to manage.”
Wonbum Lee, head of Baltic Region for Home Electronics at LG Electronics, added that hybrid TV makes it much better to use the capabilities of a smart TV. He also said that the smart TVs that the company supplies are already ready for hybrid TV, with users being able to activate HbbTV in the menu themselves.
