M7 Deutschland unveils UHD package and smart TV app

June 4, 2019 20.18 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

M7 has rolled out an Ultra HD (UHD) package for cable and IPTV network operators in German-speaking Europe featuring Insight UHD, Love Nature 4K and Fashion One 4K.

“It’s the largest UHD package on German cable,” Marco Hellberg (pictured), head of channel management at Eviso Germany, business partner of M7, pointed out during a press event at trade fair ANGA COM 2019. Furthermore, the move marks the debut of Love Nature 4K and Fashion One 4K on German cable. “This enables our partners to differentiate themselves in competition.”

German cable operators wilhelm.tel and willy.tel are already distributing the UHD package with further carriage partners to be announced soon, said Hellberg. He stressed that the new channels are offered to cable customers subscribing to the Basis HD package at no extra charge, providing them with an easy way to try out the capabilities of their new UHD TV sets.

The channels are transmitted to head-ends via Astra (19.2° East) and Eutelsat Hotbird (13° East). Insight UHD is offered in German language while Love Nature 4K and Fashion One 4K are broadcasting in English language.

M7 also unveiled its new smart TV app at ANGA COM 2019. The white label product is based on the smart TV app M7 has introduced in all of its B2C markets and provides cable operators with an opportunity to combine DVB-C and IP services, as Stephan Krainz, head of product proposition at Eviso Germany, explained during the press briefing.

The app contains around 30 catch-up services from TV broadcasters, interactive features like restart, live pause and network PVR, a video-on-demand service with movies, series, documentaries and other content as well as mobile apps for smartphones and tablets.

M7 currently serves around 140 cable and IPTV network operators in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Luxembourg with a combined technical reach of 3.5 million households. 10 new network operators were added as partners in the last 12 months.
