Sky Italy will be prevented from distributing exclusive content online for a period of three years.
Italy’s competition regulator has imposed the restriction over fears a deal with Mediaset would further restrict competition in an area where Sky is already a significant force.
Last year, Mediaset announced it would be selling its premium DTT business to Sky as part of a wider agreement between the two broadcasters.
Sky subsequently launched a two-package terrestrial offfer Sky TV is priced at €19.90 and includes Sky Uno, Sky Atlantic, Fox, National Geographic, Sky TG24, and Mediaset-run channels Premium Action, Premium Crime, Premium Joi, Premium Stories, Premium Cinema, Premium Cinema Energy, Premium Cinema Emotion and Premium Cinema Comedy.
The second premium offer for €10 comprises Sky Sport 24 and Sky Sports 1.
Sky Italia has signalled its intention to appeal.
