There are now over 5 million fixed-line internet connections in Romania, of which 2 million are FTTH.
Data published by the regulator ANCOM shows that as of the end of 2018 the number of fixed-line connections stood at 5.1 million, up 7% on a year earlier.
This was largely down to the growth of high-speed connections of at least 100Mbps (+16%), which accounted for 69% of the total at the end of 2018.
Fixed-line internet customers used on average 25Gb a month. Meanwhile, the fixed-line internet penetration stood at 62 per 100 households nationally, with the urban and rural rates being 74$ and 46% respectively.
Significantly, the gap between the two continued to decrease and 40% of rural internet connections already allowed for download speeds of over 100Mbps.
The leading provider of fixed-line internet services in Romania had a 51% market share at the end of 2018. Its main competitor claimed 23% and other suppliers 26%.
