German media company Freenet continued to record rising customer numbers for its TV platforms in Q1 2019.
As of March 31, internet TV service waipu.tv had around 1.5 million registered users, 286,300 of which were customers of one of the subscription packages. This corresponds to an increase of 34,600 paying customers compared to the end of 2018. Freenet expects more than 350,000 paying waipu.tv customers by the end of 2019.
waipu.tv’s business is to be further strengthened by the recently launched sales cooperation with Telefónica Deutschland which offers its customers o2 TV powered by waipu.tv.
The Freenet TV platform, which is broadcast via DVB-T2 and DTH satellite system Astra (19.2° East), had around 1.020 million paying customers on March 31, an increase by 5,900 compared to the end of 2018. Freenet expects the number to stabilise at over one million paying customers by the end of 2019.
