A year on year growth of 99,000 for streaming service Viaplay helped NENT achieve a strong first quarter.
In the Stockholm-based company’s first report since it became a listed company, the former MTG content division reported sales of SEK 3,727 million (€348 million). Sales increased by 9%, benefitting both from Viaplay and some strategic content sales.
With a subscriber base of 1,357,000, the new additions represent 59% of the total, which president and CEO Anders Jensen described as “healthy”.
“NENT is a unique play on the Nordic streaming market. Scaling Viaplay is the best way to drive long-term shareholder value, and we intend to do so while continuing to deliver profitable growth,” he said.
NENT has recently signed a number of Pan-Nordic agreements including exclusive coverage of Alpine and Cross Country skiing from 2021, IndyCar racing until 2021, the Open golf championship until 2024, as well as movies and series from MGM and NBCU.
It has also announced 9, and premiered 3, new Viaplay Originals and will premiere at least 20 this year.
