Discovery’s President and Chief Executive Officer says the network has made a solid start to the year.
It’s recently announced a 10-year global partnership with the BBC for factual SVOD content and taken full control of part of the UKTV network. In the United States, Discovery holds the top-four cable networks for women 25-54 with ID, HGTV, Food Network and TLC, for the first quarter of 2019
“In the first quarter we delivered a solid start to 2019, as we continue to power people’s passions through our loved brands and our owned global IP in genres that nourish audiences around the world,” said David Zaslavy. “We are a differentiated media company and have the right strategy, assets, brands, and management team necessary to drive additional shareholder value.”
First quarter revenues of $2,707 million increased 17% on 2019.
International Networks’ revenues decreased 13% to $952 million, in part due to a 6% fall in advertising revenues in the absence of the Olympics.
However, there was a 1% uplift in distribution revenues and higher digital subscription revenues in Europe.
