Ringier and CNN team up for Swiss news channel

April 10, 2019 13.15 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Swiss media company Ringier is adding a TV channel to its tabloid newspaper Blick.

Blick group will launch Blick TV in 2020 as a reaction to the strong increase of the number of video viewers and the changed requirements of the advertising markets, Ringier announced in Zurich.

With its own digital channel, the company wants to expand the leading position of Blick in the video market. The focus will include national news coverage and breaking news.

Cooperation partner is US broadcaster CNN, which will contribute international news.

“We are delighted to welcome Blick to CNN’s global partner network,” said Roland Nikolaou, senior director, content sales and partnerships at CNN International Commercial. “This is an exciting partnership that will enable us to make CNN content available to an even wider audience in Switzerland and Liechtenstein via Blick TV’s digital platform.”

With CNN Money Switzerland, which launched in January 2018, CNN already operates a business news channel in Switzerland.
