Wolfgang Elsäßer, long-standing managing director of Astra Deutschland and most recently head of TV at Deutsche Telekom, will make a move to Switzerland.
As the new CEO of Cinetrade, a subsidiary of Swiss telco Swisscom, Elsäßer will be responsible for pay-TV broadcaster Teleclub, the largest Swiss cinema operator KITAG and other units.
Elsäßer succeeds Wilfried Heinzelmann, who will resign after almost five years in July 2019. Heinzelmann will continue to be available to Cinetrade in an advisory capacity.
“I am very much looking forward to shaping the further growth of the entertainment business together with the Swisscom and Cinetrade teams. It’s an exciting entrepreneurial challenge,” said Elsäßer, speaking about his new role.
From 2004 to 2016, Elsäßer headed the German branch of Luxembourg-based satellite operator SES. In 2017 he joined Deutsche Telekom as head of TV and entertainment.
