Sky News changed its strategy for social media two year ago, according to Cristina Nicolotti Squires, its director of content.
Speaking in a conversation with Rami Saad, head of international content partnerships, Snap, at the Connected TV World Summit in London, she said that its aim was to “bring in a new audience, showcase our original journalism and make us money”.
She added that two of these criteria had to be met in any partnership.
Nicolotti Squires also said that Sky News doesn’t change its content, just the way it tells the story.
Meanwhile, Saad said that the feed is curated on snap and is not an “open for all” service.
While revealing that the partnership with Snap makes Sky News some money, Nicolotti Squires said that its main source of revenue remains TV advertising.
