RTL Deutschland secures Awesomeness series for SVOD

March 18, 2019 23.43 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

German broadcaster Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland will show the latest series from Awesomeness on its subscription video-on-demand service (SVOD) TV Now.

The exclusive series package includes, for example, the Emmy award-winning series Zac & Mia, Light as a Feather with Peyton List and Tagged, a social media thriller with Noah Centineo.

The news follows a deal signed between RTL and Viacom International Studios (VIS), the international distribution partner of the catalogue of premium series and films from Awesomeness. The multimedia network, which focuses on creating original content for GenZ through its film and television divisions, was acquired by Viacom in 2018.

“With TV Now we recently launched a new full-featured and stand-alone streaming service for the mass market to entertain, inform and move people all over Germany. Thanks to the partnership with Awesomeness and VIS, we can supplement our exclusive content with high-quality programmes for the increasingly important young audience,” said Moritz Pohl, head of VOD content at RTL interactive.

Lauren Marriott, VP, international content sales at VIS, added: “We are incredibly excited to include the Awesomeness portfolio of high-quality and exciting screenplay series and films in our distribution slate prior to this year’s MIPTV. We look forward to giving our partners the opportunity to add even more Awesomeness to their schedules that will appeal to Gen Z audiences everywhere.”

Awesomeness series and films have already been licensed in a number of regions around the world, including the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Benelux, Africa, Japan, Israel and India. Now they are available for distribution to all partners and platforms through VIS.
