Digi invests for success

March 13, 2019 11.33 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Digi Communications has invested almost €2.5 billion on the most advanced electronic communications in the last 11 years, according to Serghei Bulgac, the company’s CEO.

Speaking in a wide-ranging interview with Business Review, he added that this had been principally focused on increasing the fibre penetration in Romania and Hungary.

Investments in 2018 alone amounted to €280 million, or nearly 15% more than in the previous year. Digi’s fibre network currently reaches around 73% of homes in Romania and 47% in Hungary.

In Hungary, where the company plans to launch mobile services this year, the number of RGUs, including Invitel, rose from 500,000 to 700,000 in 2018. Bulgac said that Digi enjoys the confidence of investors in international markets and recently secured €200 million in a bond issue. All told, it has attracted over €1 billion through bond issues on international markets since 2013.
