German media authority MABB has granted sports streaming service DAZN a broadcast licence.
The permission is valid for the DAZN services in Germany, Austria and Italy as well as for the sports bar channels DAZN 1 Bar HD and DAZN 2 Bar HD.
German anti-media concentration commission KEK has also approved the issuing of the licence.
“We are pleased that DAZN has decided to obtain regulatory approval from MABB,” said MABB director Dr Anja Zimmer in Berlin. “The innovative streaming service makes an additional contribution to media diversity, at the same time further strengthening Berlin-Brandenburg as a media location.”
The DAZN services were previously licensed by UK-based media authority Ofcom.
Due to the legal uncertainty in connection with the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union (Brexit), Turner Broadcasting, NBC Universal and Discovery also recently also secured German broadcast licenses for international TV channels.
