This Monday, March 11, Canal+ will unveil details of its SVOD service that is destined to counter Netflix.
However, some details of the proposed service, which will succeed CanalPlay, have already leaked.
The service will probably be called Canal Series and will cost €6.99 per month. Content will consist of US series from Showtime (which could include Dexter, Homeland and Californication, among others) and FX (e.g. American Horror Story, Legion, Breaking Bad, The Americans).
Canal+ had difficulties establishing its SVOD service CanalPlay. Appearing before the Senate Committee on Culture in June 2018, Maxime Saada, chairman and CEO of Canal Plus Group, blamed a regulatory environment for preventing an exclusive deal with Netflix or Amazon that in turn had led to a collapse in subscriber numbers for CanalPlay from 800,000 to 200,000 over two years.
Meanwhile, Netflix has overtaken Canal+ in France after a surge in subscriptions in recent weeks.
