Samsung adds waipu.tv to smart TV sets

March 6, 2019 21.47 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Samsung has commenced offering German internet TV platform waipu.tv on all QLED and Ultra HD smart TV sets sold in Germany in 2019 as a pre-installed app on multimedia portal Samsung Smart Hub.

The buyers receive 6 months free-of-charge access to subscription package waipu.tv Perfect which regularly costs €9.99 per month. The promotion applies to new waipu.tv customers and runs from March 6 until December 31, 2019. After the free period, access ends automatically, with viewers being alerted by on-screen pop-up messages.

Since 2017 waipu.tv has already been offering an app for smart TV sets from Samsung, but the user must first download and install the app from the app store. The free trial period is limited to one month.

“With the launch of waipu.tv via Samsung, we now have the largest TV manufacturer on board and together we can revolutionise the entertainment of the future,” said Christoph Bellmer, CEO and chairman of the board of waipu.tv’s operating company Exaring. “The Samsung Smart Hub is the ideal platform to promote our offer and provide users with very simple and convenient access.”

waipu.tv includes more than 100 TV channels, most of them in HD quality, pay-TV channels and video-on-demand content. Users can record programmes via the cloud and watch them time-shifted. The service can also be accessed via smartphone, tablet and PC.
