MTG said it was looking to third party distribution sales that were helping to compensate for what Jørgen Madsen Lindemann, President & Chief Executive Officer described as a “structural decline” in satellite and DTV.
It was the 4th successive month for satellite declines, though Lindemann expressed a hope the churn could be arrested, and the tail was “quite long”.
At the same time streaming platform ViaPlay is continuing to move from strength to strength. “The month of December was an all time high for Viaplay. Obviously, we’ve activated all systems go on our sales, but it’s very encouraging to see the full effect from customers, very much driven by very strong originals in the 4th quarter,” said Lindemann.
MTG reported sales of SEK 5,375 million; sales grew by 4%, while Nordic Entertainment sustained its strong performance, and MTGx was profitable on a full year basis for the first time.
MTG is spinning off its entertainment company NENT Group, which will be listed on Nasdaq Stockholm in March 2019.
