Myanmar’s My Sports surpasses 1 million Facebook fans

February 4, 2019 09.12 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Eleven Sports’ Myanmar service, My Sports, has passed 1 million fans on Facebook.

The landmark has been reached in just over six months since the service launched in June 2018.

Since launch, Facebook has been the primary streaming platform for the live action on My Sports and the rapid growth in followers was kicked off by the Asian Games in August 2018 which drove a high volume of traffic and engagement to the page. ?

Matches from the General Aung San Shield, Myanmar’s premier knockout cup competition, fostered further growth in September 2018 and action from Serie A, the early rounds of the FA Cup and the kick off of the new Myanmar National League (MNL) season have helped to maintain the strong upward trend through the final months of 2018 and into 2019.

A combination of live Serie A matches on My Sports Facebook page reached more than 2.6 million fans on 26 and 27 December 2018. The highest reach for a single post so far was the live match between Juventus and Atalanta on 26 December which reached 1.6 million fans.

Almost half of My Sports Facebook fans are aged under 24 years old, indicating a young, football obsessed population across the country.

The impressive numbers in Myanmar add to Eleven Sports’ global following on social media which has now reached 2.6 million.

“In just over six months we have built a strong product of popular local and overseas football and the incredible growth in our numbers proves that there is huge appetite for our content,” said Clint Easthorpe, Managing Director, My Sports.

“This is a great landmark for us to hit at such an early stage and following our distribution agreements with Forever Group in January, we are very excited to a bright future for My Sports.”

In January, My Sports agreed a non-exclusive distribution agreement which will see Forever Group Myanmar broadcasting 2 MNL matches per match week on their MRTV4 channel, and a total of 6 matches from the General Aung San Shield. The agreement will see MRTV4 producing 44 MNL and 6 General Aung San Shield matches, with the matches broadcasted live on MRTV4, as well as other My Sports platforms.

Additionally, a selection of English FA Cup and Italian Serie A matches will also be broadcast live on Forever Group’s Channel 7.
