Apple’s video streaming service is set to launch in the United States this April.
First reported in The Information, as part of a wider article on Amazon’s intentions Apple is said to be advising content providers to be ready for the service to debut in mid-April.
The as yet unnamed service will be available through the existing TV app with some of Apple’s original content being made available free of charge. Content from third party providers would be purchased through the app – in app purchases are a common feature of apps across Apple’s app store.
Apple’s TV app is already able to combine content from local broadcasters with streaming services from Netflix and Amazon.
The Information’s report builds a previous Bloomberg article that suggested subscriptions could be purchased within the app.
It’s anticipated that some 100 countries will also be able to access the service, subsequent to its US debut.
