Openreach has extended the number of areas when it plans to offer full ‘fibre to the premises’ (FTTP) available to 25.
The latest areas to be included in Fibre First are Bury, Barking & Dagenham, Bexley, Croydon, Greater Glasgow region, Harrow, Merton, Redbridge, Richmond upon Thames, Sutton Coldfield, and Salford.
“We’re making great progress towards reaching our target of upgrading three million homes and businesses to full fibre by the end of 2020 – reaching another 13k premises per week – and these new recruits will play a crucial role in that programme,” said Clive Selley, chief executive, Openreach.
Openreach has also announced the hiring of 3,000 new trainee engineers over the next 12 months. The number is in addition to the 3,500 new trainee engineers hired last year.
