Broadband TV News has been made aware of an unusual situation that exists in Slovakia with respect to the reception of Netflix.
According to a reader, the SVOD service is only available in the country in German, Polish, Ukrainian and Hungarian. However, it is not offered in the Czech language, which is widely understood in Slovakia.
This is in contrast to other streaming platforms like HBO GO and Amazon Prime Video, which are offered in Czech.
The reader has also informed Broadband TV News of a petition calling for Netflix to be localised in the Czech language in Slovakia.
Contacted by Broadband TV News about the situation, a Netflix spokesperson said: “We currently localise our UI and subtitle our TV shows and movies in over 20 different languages. We also offer dubbing options for many titles in our catalogue. As we gather member feedback and understand usage patterns better, we will make decisions about what languages to add in the future”.
