Netflix has given an insight into the take-up of its latest content.
Announcing subscriber growth of 8.8 million, the streaming service said annual revenues grew by 35% to $16 billion in 2018.
7.3 million subscribers were in international markets.
However, such growth was still a disappointment to the stock market, where shares fell by 4.3% over disappointment that the growth was slower than expected, and higher spending on shows.
In its letter to shareholders, Netflix said it estimated that its latest hit, Bird Box from director Susanne Bier, will be viewed by 80 million subscriber households, adding that it is also seeing high repeat viewing.
Spanish original Elite has been viewed in 20 million households in the first four weeks following its release. Elite has also enjoyed high social engagement with interest online in the relatively new cast.
You, which began life on the US channel Lifetime, is estimated to be viewed by 40 million subscriber households in its first four weeks on Netflix – it has now made the transition to a Netflix original.
The UK-produced Sex Education is also anticipated to be a major hit with 40 million households watching the title within the first 4 weeks.
