The Court of Rome has ordered Vimeo to pay €8.5 million to RTI, a Mediaset group company, for the publication and non-removal of videos from copyrighted TV programmes.
The Court ruled that Vimeo was hosting the videos “in all similar to a video on demand service”. Vimeo will have to prevent new uploads of unauthorized content, under penalty of a fine of one thousand euros for each individual violation and a penalty of €500 for each day of delay in removal.
The provider will also have to publish the ruling in the print and online editions of two Italian newspapers and on the homepage of the same portal “vimeo.com”.
