The Ukrainian national commercial broadcaster 1+1 Media has provided a summary of its fight against piracy in 2018.
Quoting 1+1 Media, Mediasat reports that at the end of the year it had sent 103 claims to offenders and signed 48 agreements with software service providers (violators) leading to peaceful settlement of disputes with them.
Furthermore, together with the Smartsolutions Law Group, with which 1+1 Media has partnered in its fight against piracy, it initiated 17 new criminal proceedings, within which 10 experts studies and six authorised searches were undertaken.
There are currently over 30 criminal proceedings taking place.
In other actions, 1+1 Media, together with the Cyber Police Department of the National Police of Ukraine, investigated 11 instances of the violation of intellectual property rights. 1+1 Media also filed the first of two complaints related to card sharing activities.
Importantly, despite the actions of criminals, as a result of the work of 1+1 Media in 2017 and 2018, there was a significant increase in demand for pay-TV services in Ukraine. As a result, from 2017 to 2018, the number of subscribers increased from 4.7 million to 5.1 million.
Furthermore, thanks to the encryption of satellite TV channels this year 1+1 Media predicts the total will rise to 7.3 million.
