Lithuania’s Radio and Television Commission (RTK) has issued a binding order to ISPs forbidding them from giving access to websites that distribute TV programmes without its permission.
In a statement, it says that having monitored seven websites – www.lt-tv.us, www.ittv.us, www.climetv.eu, www.play2pay.info, astra.play2pay.info, rus.play2pay.info, europe.play2pay.info – it concluded that they were distributing TV content illegally.
As a result, it lodged an appeal with the Vilnius Regional Court on December 13 for a request to issue such a binding order and this was granted four days later.
RTK adds that according to the Law on the Provision of Information to the Public, parties wishing to distribute TV programming on the internet first have to apply to and receive permission from the regulator.
It also says that this is not the first time it has undertaken such an action, having issued an order to ISPs to block the sites www.samorodok.tv, www.onelike.tv, www.freeintertv.com, www.tvtune.net, www.lttv.us, www.megogo.net in May this year.
