Dutch cable operator Delta has started supplying internet throughout the province of Zeeland with a fibre-optic speed of 1 Gigabit per second over the cable.
Delta is able to deliver this high speed because the company started a year ago with a large-scale network upgrade and recently switched off the analogue radio and TV signal.
“Zeeland is the first in the Netherlands with a province-covering gigabit network and we are proud of that. Throughout Zeeland, our customers can now opt for superfast 1000 Mbps internet,” said Ludolf Rasterhoff, Director of Telecom at Delta.
“Our network is becoming even more reliable and stable at the same time. This is important because the Internet is playing an increasingly important role in the daily life and business operations of our customers.”
Delta is carrying out a major network upgrade to deliver these high speeds. Equipment is being replaced at 15,000 locations throughout Zeeland. DOCSIS 3.1 makes it possible to deliver much higher speeds over coax. Customers who order 1 Gbps internet get the new modem on loan at no additional charge.
