The Polish public broadcaster TVP has expressed an interest in buying the soon-to-close SVOD service ShowMax Poland.
As reported earlier this week in Broadband TV News, quoting Wirtualne Media, the Naspers-owned service plans to exit the Polish market at the end of January 2019, barely two years after it made its European debut in the country.
Quoting Maciej Stanecki, a member of TVP’s board, Wirtualne Media now reports that the public broadcaster is interested in buying ShowMax Poland and the rights, to its content, particularly as this would significantly enhance its own on demand service VOD TVP.
Furthermore, there has already been initial contact between the two parties at board level.
Showmax CEE, the parent company of ShowMax Poland, posted sales of PLN19.21 million (€4.47 million) and a profit of PLN1.4 million in the last financial year.
The SVOD service costs PLN19.90 a month to receive following a free, two-week trial period.
