Gerhard Mack new CTO of Vodafone Deutschland

December 6, 2018 22.47 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

The supervisory board of Vodafone Deutschland has appointed Gerhard Mack as the company’s new Chief Technology Officer (CTO).

Mack will succeed Dr Eric Kuisch, who is leaving Vodafone to take on new challenges.

Mack has been managing director of commercial operations at Vodafone Deutschland since April 1, 2016. “Gerhard Mack is a driver of digitisation in our industry,” said CEO Hannes Ametsreiter. “He knows the company and is a proven technology expert – which gives him the ideal prerequisites for his new role. I look forward to working with him to shape the future of the Gigabit company.”

Mack added: “The technology sector is the heart of our company. I am very much looking forward to my new task. And I would like to thank the supervisory board for its confidence.”

The 50-year-old communications engineer has been working for Kabel Deutschland and Vodafone since 2006. He established the technical operations department and was appointed to the management board as COO in 2014. After the takeover by Vodafone, he was responsible for the integration of the technical divisions of Vodafone and Kabel Deutschland as deputy technology director.

Over the next few months, under Mack’s direction, Vodafone intends to accelerate the Gigabit upgrade of its cable network, switch on a large number of new LTE sites and close remaining gaps on its mobile footprint. The rollout of the 5G infrastructure is also on the agenda.

Mack will remain managing director commercial operations for a transitional period, continuing to drive digitisation in the service area.
