Madrid has emerged as the favourite location for Amazon’s European content operations.
El Español says Amazon executives have been in talks with Spanish producers for several months and the Spanish capital now seems likely to get the go-ahead in the next few weeks. Madrid would serve alongside London as the European headquarters for its productions.
Already, Amazon has been working on a number of series that will be produced on the European continent. In July, a deal was closed with Secuoya Studios in Tres Cantos to produce 12 series a year.
According to CNMC, Amazon has 656,000 homes using its service in Spain.
In the last few days distribution deals have been signed with Orange and Vodafone.
