Facebook Watch is turning to a 20-year old show to attract interest to its Facebook Watch service.
The social media company has secured the rights to every episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and has recruited star Sarah Michelle Gellar to film a video promoting the acquisition. It’s also running spin-off show Angel and Joss Wheldon’s Firefly.
Social will meet Linear with the holding of ‘Watch Parties’ where viewers on Facebook can enjoy a ‘shared experience’, and presumably comment on their favourite slaying.
While Facebook is trying the shows in the US market, it is also commissioning new content on both sides of the Atlantic.
As recently reported in Broadband TV News, Thames, the company that produces X Factor, is running Confetti, a £10,000 prize game show.
