German pay-TV operator Sky Deutschland will add Netflix as an app to its multimedia platform Sky Q on November 15, 2018.
Sky subscribers in Germany and Austria will be able to access the streaming service via the new Entertainment Plus package. The bouquet will include full access to the Netflix standard tariff (watch two streams in HD quality simultaneously) as well as up to 29 channels from the Sky line-up, of which up to 17 are in HD, all Sky box sets with complete series seasons and mobile streaming service Sky Go.
Recommendations for Sky and Netflix content are shown together on the main page of Sky Q and in the series section. Netflix content is also integrated into the Sky Q text search.
The Entertainment Plus package can be booked from November 15 for a monthly price of €32.99 with a contract term of 24 months; it can be combined with all other Sky packages.
In comparison with the respective individual subscriptions (total costs: €35.98/month), the Entertainment Plus bundle resembles a saving of €2.99 per month. However, the customer is tied to the subscription for 24 months and renounces the option to cancel the subscription each month which Netflix offers when booked as a stand-alone product.
An upgrade to Netflix Premium (with Ultra HD and four streams simultaneously) is also possible for a surcharge of €3 per month and can be added or removed at any time during the Entertainment Plus contract period.
A Sky Q receiver is required to use Entertainment Plus.
Sky customers with an existing Netflix subscription can connect their account to Entertainment Plus and continue to use their Netflix profile. Entertainment Plus customers can use Netflix on all standard Netflix supported devices. In addition, existing Netflix customers can use Sky Q to access the service at any time without an Entertainment Plus subscription.
Sky customers can also sign up for Netflix via the Netflix app on Sky Q and use Netflix as a stand-alone service. In this case, the standard Netflix prices apply.
In the UK and Ireland, Sky has been offering Netflix via Sky Q since November 1, 2018.
